LikuLiku Lagoon Resort ~ Fiji’s Ultimate Honeymoon Resort
Fiji Honeymoon Romance with Likuliku’s Over-Water Bungalow
Likuliku Lagoon Resort, Fiji’s only resort with true over-water bures, is situated in the Mamanucas, on 2,000-acre Malolo Island in the western part of the country. The resort is perfect for honeymooners who want something special that no other resort in Fiji can offer: and adults only experience and the exotic over-water bungalow.
We know couples love the resort, so much so that it sees many return guests. In fact, some couples have returned every year since its opening in 2007. Fiji Vacations offers these returnees a special discount.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with the Fijian welcome song “Bula Maleya,” warm smiles, and a hand crafted Likuliku necklace. Then you’re whisked away to try some kava—or yaqona, as the locals call it—which is made from the root of a pepper plant. In Fiji, kava is primarily consumed for relaxation, and that’s the number one thing you need to do on your honeymoon!
Over-Water & Beach Bures
The resort’s 45 bures have amazing views of the coral lagoon and ocean. Its accommodations—over-water bures, deluxe beachfront bures, beachfront bures, and garden beachfront bures—are built using natural materials unique to Fiji. All bures feature air-conditioning, music systems, phones, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen monitors and a DVD player, a daily canapé plate, and a king bed. We adore that local singer Jesse made an album especially for the resort. If you listen closely, you’ll hear the music when you enter your bure.
The resort has ten Over-Water Bures suspended over the lagoon’s fringing reef. Your bure over the water comes with a large deck with sun chairs, binoculars, and a ladder, if you prefer to wade into the water instead of jumping off the deck. Honeymooners receive a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to enjoy on the deck or wherever you choose. You won’t want to leave your deck at sunset, as the view is impossible to put into words. You may not want to ever leave your bathroom, either, since the bathtub overlooks the lagoon with endless horizon views!
The best view in the over-water bure just might be through the dark wood floor’s glass viewing window, which looks straight through to the ocean. Chances are you will see fish and a few blue starfish hanging out, as well.
The 18 Deluxe Beachfront Bures are a favorite of guests for their outdoor showers and daybed retreats, with a plunge pool off each deck. Each room has a split-level design, which assures views wherever you’re standing.
The Garden Beachfront and Beachfront Bures offer a secluded haven of relaxation and privacy complete with lots of open space, outdoor showers, daybed retreats, and decks with sun chairs.
Fijian Mythology
The resort is rich in ancient Fijian mythology. Likuliku in the Malolo dialect means “calm lagoons or waters.” This area was an ancient safe harbor for war canoes during times of tribal conflict. It is believed that this site plays in the lineage of the Chief of the Oceans, Tui Lawa.
Learn about the ancient sites of Likuliku, including the old village of Yaro and Potters Cave; Vatu Tagi, called weeping rock; Vatu Tabu, known as the sacred wishing rock; and Yadra Vula, a site of early Fijian habitation listed with the Fiji Museum.
Sitting against the green slopes of the island, with beautiful water views and soothing breezes, is Tatadra Spa. Choose a Fijian massage or a number of other natural beauty and body treatments. When you honeymoon at Likuliku for five nights or more, you’ll receive a complimentary one-hour massage for two at Tatadra.
Take a hike on one of the nature trails that lead to sweeping vistas of the Mamanuca Islands. Visit the local village to meet the happiest people in the world. If you and your significant other find the time to break away from your room, don’t miss the infinity pool, as it provides one of the most spectacular views, with every color of blue you can imagine. You can also soak in one of the many mini Jacuzzi areas in the pool. Likuliku also has a gym, guest lounge, boutique, and bar.
Meals are included in the nightly tariff at Likuliku. The cuisine served at Fijiana Restaurant sources the finest local produce, with an emphasis on seafood, tropical fruits, and premium products. The dining menu changes daily, and evenings showcase local and cultural elements. If you’re lucky at dinner, you’ll catch the angelic Fijian choir. The chefs at Likuliku are great about catering to most dietary requirements and will even design dishes with a certain cuisine in mind, like Indian and Chinese, if you request it.
Likuliku Lagoon Resort is 16 miles from Nadi International Airport, only a quick helicopter, seaplane, private speedboat, or catamaran transfer away to paradise.
