Surfing some of the World’s Best Waves

Fiji is known not only for the beauty of its island, but also for providing some of the best surfing opportunities on the planet. Blue water, great surfs and the perfect waves can be found on this little island. Here are some of the best places to catch a wave while enjoying Fiji vacation packages.

Fiji has some of the best break points in the world, like Cloud Break and Swimming Pools near Tavarua. Previously, some of the best places to surf were inclusive luxury islands where only the very wealthy could afford to enjoy the great break points. Due to Fiji’s 2010 “Surf Decree” anybody can surf the waters of these awesome islands, like Kedavu and Vita Levu.

Fiji has the third largest barrier reef in the world, so catching waves can be a little tricky if you’re a beginner. Vita Levu’s Coral Coast is one of the best places to find great waves for surfing, as there are plenty of access points that skip over the barrier reef here. The tides in Fiji are also a little different than other islands, since it is almost impossible to surf during low tide – so be sure to bring your board when the tide is up. There are basically three areas in Fiji that are accessible for surfing. These areas include: Kadavu, Pacific Harbour, and Nadi. The breaks at Nadi can be found around the Tavarua and Namotu islands, and you can find breaks at Pacific Harbour you can find breaks at Frigate’s Passage near Beqa Island. The easiest place to surf without having to hassle with permits or reservations would be Nadi, however.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are not what you believe: they are some of the biggest waves in the world, created by a sandbar right off the coast. Contrary to most of the shores in Fiji, you should surf the Sand Dunes during low tide. Natadola Beach is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Fiji, a favorite hangout for locals and tourists, and you can find some of the best breaks here. Fiji vacations all inclusive packages will probably introduce you to the Tavarua and the Mamatu islands, where you can stay at luxury surfing resorts and enjoy the beautiful blue waters and waves while relaxing in a great hotel. Don’t miss out on the Namotu Left or the Swimming Pools – all famous surfing break points.

One of the best things about surfing in Fiji is the powerful and frequent swells, the warm water and the tubular reefs that can be found here. For accessing many of the breaks, you will need to commandeer the use of a boat to reach the starting point.
